Fleming
moved
heavily
out
of
his
place
and
knelt
between
the

The

boys
bent

began

write

A
silence
filled
the
classroom
and
Stephen

glancing
timidly
at
Father

dark

saw
that

was

the

if

what
would

Perhaps
he
would

And
if
the

did
it
he
would

to

rector

and

to
the
provincial
:
and
the

to
the

of
the
jesuits
.
That
was
called
the

and
he
had
heard
his

clever

could

have

people
in
the

if

wondered

have

.
It
was
hard
to
think
what
because
you
would
have
to
think
of
them
in

different
way
with
different
coloured
coats
and
trousers
and
with
beards
and
moustaches
and
different
kinds
of
hats
.
The

quietly
and
