soil

plateau

particularly
fertile

that

harvests

abundant

also

variety
of
different
beverages

long
as
they

not
demand
wine

hard

please

tea

liquor
extracted

roots

the

beer

from
the
young
shoots

the
spruce-fir

after
having

boiled

fermented
,
made
that
agreeable
drink
called
by
the
Anglo-Americans
spring

beer

Towards
the
end
of
the
summer

the
poultry-yard

possessed

a
couple
of
fine
bustards

belonged
to
the
houbara
species
,
characterized
by
a
sort
of
feathery
mantle

dozen
shovelers

magnificent
cocks

activity

these
courageous
and
intelligent

Nature
did
much
for
them

doubtless

faithful
to

great
precept

a
right
use

what
a
bountiful
Providence
gave
them
