boy

calf
's

jelly

stopping
before
him

boy

restlessly

her

surprised

whittle
again
at
his
stick

dull

broken-bladed
knife
in
his
hand

Pollyanna
hesitated

then
dropped
herself
comfortably
down
on
the
grass
near
him
.

of
Pollyanna
's
brave
assertion
that
she
was

mind

she
had
sighed
at

for
some
companion
of
her
own
age

determination
