hut

easier

erect

built
it
against

first

walls

required

it
was
work

hard
work

it

Maud
and
I
worked
from
dawn
till
dark

to
the
limit
of
our
strength
,
so
that
when
night
came
we
crawled
stiffly
to
bed
and
slept
the
animal-like
sleep
exhaustion
.

yet
Maud
declared
that
she
had
never
felt
better
or
stronger
in
her
life

knew
this

true
of
myself

hers

such
a
lily
strength
that

feared
she
would
break
down

last-reserve

gone

her
stretched
flat
on

back

she
would
be
up

her
feet
and

this
strength

marvel
